When you search for something, what does it show, what spirit does it manifest? Doesn’t it show a strong desire to find the thing for which the person is searching and that what he is searching for is worth some effort? The Bible uses the word seek when it comes to finding God, even though He is not far from each one of us. (Acts 17:22-32) Why do we have to seek or search for God?
God has given us so much: life, food and a myriad of other things. Would not an appreciative heart be moved to show recognition andlove for the provider of all things? Would not that God deserve a response on our part for all that He has done and is doing?
Let’s take the example of food. While there is an abundant supply of food in the world, don’t we still need to make an effort to get it? Even the food that grows on a tree, with little being done on our part, we still
God expects effort, work, desire. So we have to make an effort if we want to get to know Him.
So in Psalms 145:18 we are encouraged to call on Him which would be through prayer. In Acts 17:26 we are encouraged to seek for God. In James 4:8 we are commanded to draw close to Him. In all three Scriptures we are asked to do something, to do something that would show what in is in our hearts, what kind of parsons we are.
Yes, God expects us to take the initiative and that is because He has already done his part. Now He expects us to do ours.
Can you now see why we need to search for God? If we call, seek and search, than surely we will enjoy a blessed relationship with the Almighty God, Jehovah.
