Why Do Some People Have A Warped Way Of Looking At Things?

Playing in a park is a cute, innocent child. One man sees the child and thinks how nice it would be to be a child again, so carefree, just enjoying life without any worries or responsibilities. At the same park, sits another man with a totally warped way of looking at the same child. This man sees the child as someone to abuse, someone to give him sexual pleasure. Why the difference?

The second man may have been abused as a child and so was taught to abuse children. He may have developed a warped way of thinking and seeing people

by viewing pornographic material and nurtured a mentally diseased way of viewing children. Regardless of what nay have happened, he now has a warped way of looking at children.

On a bus, there are two men and both see a woman boarding the same bus. One man smiles and makes enough room so that she can pass by. Another man, seeing an opportunity, squeezes closer so that he can touch her inappropriately. How did this man develop this warped way of looking at women?

Was he abused as a child and so views women as sex objects? Was he exposed to pornographic material? Did he go and view entertainment that was obscene? Did he have companionship with people that have little respect for others? Regardless of what happened, he now has a warped way of looking at women.

We read or hear of such kind of people regularly in the media: rapes

rampant in some counties, pedophiles in religious orders, and molesters in the sports field and in schools. Why do some people have a warped way of looking at things? How did they develop a warped way of thinking and acting?

Ephesians 4:17-19 (MSG) makes this true statement: "And so I insist—and God backs me up on this—that there be no going along with the crowd, the empty-headed, mindless crowd. They’ve refused for so long to deal with God that they’ve lost touch not only with God but with reality itself. They can’t think straight anymore. Feeling no pain, they let themselves go in sexual obsession, addicted to every sort of perversion."

Such people, whether professing a religion or not, have no real moral guidance. They have no understanding of the way God wants us to think and live. Oh, if only they would take the ways of God seriously and live accordingly!

If they learned about the way God really wants us to live and acted on that knowledge, they might be able to wash their minds and hearts of every filfth and view things not in a warped way but in a clean and pure way that would make the world a safer and happier place for children, women, and men. (See Ephesians 4:20-23)
