When I was a little boy at school, they were selling holy pictures. They told me that each purchase came with one wish that would come true. Of course, I don’t believe that now. But I did believe it then! I believed with all my heart that if I purchased one holy picture, I would be granted one wish and that whatever I wished for would come true.
I didn’t have much money, so I was able to buy only one picture with only one wish. I could have wished for anything. Anything I wanted! I thought long and hard onwhat to wish for.
What did I wish for?
Since my grandparents, all four of them, had died before I was born, I wished that my parents would live a long time.
Did God listen to my request? I can’t say for sure. But knowing Him, as I do now, I know He must have been touched that out of all things that I could have wished for myself that I used my one and only wish in such an unselfish way. I can’t say for sure, but I know He has a soft heart for unselfish and humble little children.
My mother lived to be 91 and passed away a few years ago and my father is 95 ½ years old. I don’t know how much longer he will be with us but I
What is the secret of their long life? Was it that they had a wonderful son? I wish I could say that but I had only one wish, remember?
I would probably say that they had a garden and that they ate a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. We live in Canada and it is a very cold place but they still had their own fig tree that they buried under earth in the cold long winter. They made their own wine (of course), their own sausages, their own spaghetti sauce, their own pasta, etc.
We even had our own rabbits and in a big city. They were pets until they ended up in the oven.
Also, I don’t remember them ever going to a restaurant. Who wanted to go to a restaurant when they had such good and healthy food at home?
Thanks Mom and dad, for all you did and are still doing for me and my brothers.
I love you both!
