Many a time, treasures have been found in the trash or in unlikely places. Why would someone throw out a treasure with the trash? Do people throw treasures with the trash? Maybe the old adage: ”one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, is true after all. Is that trash or is that a treasure?
Why would someone throw out a treasure?
Could be that they don’t realize what they are throwing out. Might be that they are overzealous cleaners and poor observers. They are just getting rid of some old stuff that’s taking what seems to them valuable space that they coulduse for something else.
An old piece of furniture might be an antique. An old painting might be a masterpiece. A rusty coin might be worth thousands of dollars. Ignorance is not always bliss. Ignorance might lead to the loss of a small fortune.
Today, as I was out walking, getting some exercise, I saw an unusual chair in someone’s trash. Is that trash, I asked myself? Yes, it’s with the trash on the street. Someone is throwing away that unusual chair.
As I went closer to inspect it, it was a chair carved out of a log. Someone is really talented, i thought to myself and someone doesn’t want it anymore and has thrown it out with the trash. I sat in it. I picked it up and it was pretty heavy. I decided to pick it up and walk back to my home with it. Good thing I’m somewhat in shape as it was a ten minute walk with this heavy one piece chair. I just weighed it and it weighs 25 pounds.
I don’t really need it
There are many treasures in the trash. I have a friend who is an interior decorator. In his house, he has many beautiful antiques. Yes, you guessed it, every piece was found in the garbage, cleaned up, polished and now it worth quite a bit of money.
Might someone look at us and think we are trash?
Yes, to some we might seem like trash. However, our Heavenly Father might view us differently. With a little cleaning up, we might just shine as one of his precious treasures. (See Haggai 2:7; 1 Corinthians 4:13; 2 Corinthians 4:7)
The next time you go for a walk, take a glance on the neighbors’ garbage and ask yourself: is that trash or is that a treasure?
