(part 1): Do We Know What We Are Talking About When We Speak About Freedom?

What exactly is freedom? Do we actually know what we are talking about when we talk about freedom? Freedom is not that one can do whatever they want because nobody but God has that kind of freedom and only He can have that kind of freedom because He has perfect control over all things and never abuses freedom. Freedom has to be freedom for everyone or else it doesn’t exist. Freedom cannot be abused without destroying it.

Since man does not have perfect control over many things, if not all things, then man can never have it. It will never be

given to him.

Someone who has total freedom also has to have total control over the way he uses his freedom so that he would never misuse freedom. If one misuses freedom then he destroys freedom because when one misuses freedom then he is ruining the freedom of someone else.

Let me illustrate: Let’s say, I have total freedom of speech and I can say whatever I want, can I actually say whatever I want? Can I yell out “fire” in a movie theater if there is no fire? Why can I not raise a false alarm, because I might cause a panic and people could be injured? If I did that, then I am destroying the freedom of other people to enjoy a movie without someone causing them

harm. Jesus said that we would be accountable for everything we say. (See Matthew 5:22)

Now, if I lived on a planet all by myself, then I can yell whatever I want as it would not take away freedom from anyone else as there is no one else. The moment there are other people, then I can use my freedom, only, if it doesn’t hurt anyone else.

Why do we abuse freedom? Most of us are selfish and care only for ourselves and care little for others. Why do you think we have to make so many laws? This is to force ourselves from displaying what we really are; selfish and greedy. Very few of us grow in love to the point that we understand what freedom is all about.

Should we be allowed to abuse the freedom given us? It seems that God allows us the freedom to respect or abuse freedom. He is allowing us to hurt and kill one another and that without mercy and compassion. Why?
