Is it really possible to get everything you want and more by being generous? Yes, it is! God has given us the great gift of generosity. How does generosity give us everything we want and more?
Imagine that you are left with only a few seeds of grain. You can eat them and the story ends there. Or, you can plant them, get more seeds and keep planting until you can feed your family and even some of the neighbours for the rest of your life.
God is extremely generous. How many gifts has he given us? Think about that! Look atthe abundance of life on the earth. The oceans are full of life. Look at the innumerable stars in the heavens. See how much light and heat we get from one sun. What is he trying to teach us?
He is trying to teach us a very important lesson, a very important principle and that is to give, to be generous. Will we lose by giving of our time, energy and resources? Will we be made poor by doing that?
No, because the more we give, the more generous we are, the more we get back orreceive. We will get back more than we ever need or want.
Have you noticed what the earth does with one seed? What happens if you plant one apple seed? Eventually we could feed everyone on earth with apples?
Why are there food shortages? Why is there poverty? Is it because the earth cannot produce enough food? Is it because there is not enough wealth to go around? Or, is it because too many of us are too stingy, too selfish and too greedy? Stinginess, selfishness and greediness are all opposites of generosity, arenít they?
Scriptures for meditation on generosity: Genesis 1:20, 24; Proverbs 11:25; Luke 6:38.
The world has not learned or come to appreciate God’s great gift of generosity and the power in that gift. The world is not build on generosity or being generous. Therefore we have a cornucopia of problems. Most of our problems could be solved if we practiced generosity.
What is generosity? How does being generous bring us all that we want and even more?
