What Exactly Is Prayer?

What is prayer? This series of questions on prayer will begin with the beginning and will continue as I attempt to give important information on this most important of subjects. It is hoped that this information will enable you to get closer to the Greatest Being in the universe, your Heavenly Father, God.

So what exactly is prayer?

A simple answer would be that prayer is: reverential and respectful communication with the Almighty God, the one who created us and maintains our life. Prayer involves many aspects such as praise, thanks and requests.

Since prayer is communication with Almighty God, who is so

much higher and greater than us, it should be done with reverence and great respect. While God is our Father and also our Friend, still we should always remember with whom we are communicating and would not want our communication to lack decorum and dignity.

In the Bible, prayer is compared to unique aromatic incense, so it should be a pleasant experience for both us and God Almighty. There was special, unique, specifically blended incense in the Bible that was a special mixture that was only used in worship. So prayer is

a different form of communication, incomparable and unequal to any other communication with might have with another human.

As our communication with God improves, our prayers will take on a higher level. They will be refreshing, personal, heart-felt and satisfying. You will be eager and happy to approach God from one of the very first things you do when you awaken as to one of the very last things you will do at the end of each day.

Just like the day begins with a beautiful spectacle at sunrise and another one at sunset, so each day will be for you. Whatever you plan to do for the day you will delight in telling this to God and whatever has happened during the day you will be eager to discuss it with you Father and Friend.

So, I hope that you now have a better idea as to what prayer is and that you will make it your life-long habit of making prayer a daily delight each and every day.
