Does Life Have A Purpose?

Would you not agree that everything that is made is made or designed for some specific purpose?

Let’s take a watch as an example: the watch was made and designed to be a time indicator. We often look at our watches to see what time it is. By using the watch for the purpose it was designed, the watch will last a long time and that will make us happy.

But how long do you think the watch would last if we used it to hammer nails, a purpose that it was not designed for? Obviously not very long! It would get

damaged very quickly as it was not designed to be a hammer!

How about life, does it have a purpose?

Some people say: There is no purpose to life! We live for a short time, we die, and that’s it. End of story! But is that really so? No, not at all! Life does have a purpose and a wonderful one at that. So what is the purpose of life?

Jesus explained it in a few words when he made a promise to the evildoer hanging on the stake beside him. Please read Luke 23:42, 43.

The promise was that, the evildoer would one day be resurrected, and live in a paradise. Isn’t that a beautiful purpose, a beautiful hope that God has placed before us?

Now was this paradise to be in heaven or on

earth? The answer to that question is found in Psalm 115:16.

Humans were not destined for heaven. Originally God put man in a paradise on earth and if Adam and Eve had not sinned they would still be alive here on earth.

God’s purpose for man has not changed. The great majority of obedient mankind will live in the paradise restored on earth. The earth contains everything we need to live happily forever.

And think: if you had a good relationship with God, good health, enough to eat, satisfying work, and good friends, would you want life to end?

Therefore, we have a choice to make, either we are for and support God’s way of doing things and live eternally in a paradise earth or reject God’s ways and be removed from the earth when he soon destroys wicked ones. (Psalm 37: 9-11)

So life does have a purpose. And what a glorious purpose it is. Everlasting life on a paradise earth, in health and happiness! We can enjoy all the good things God has purposed if we make his purpose, our purpose in life, now and for eternity!
