Who does God help? Does God help those that help themselves or does God help those who help other people or both?
We’ve all heard the expression that God helps those that help themselves. By saying this, they are implying that if we want God’s help then we need to do something ourselves. How true is that?
From both my knowledge of the Bible and my own experience, I would say that if we want God’s help then we should be prepared to do what we can do. We should take initiative; use our physical and intellectual capacities to solve problems andchallenges that present themselves.
God really hates laziness and so if we don’t do something because of laziness then we should forget about God helping us. God never does for us what we can do ourselves. (See Proverbs 6:6 about learning from the ant, Proverbs 14:15; 21:5; 22:3))
While we need God’s blessing in all we do, we should also realize the need to exert ourselves to deal with our challenges.
God also wants us to be concerned with others and lend a hand wherever we can. He wants us to love our neighbour as we love ourselves. We need to show concern and care for other people. (See Galatians 6:10; James 1:27; 1 John 3:17-18)
God really helps everyone who seeks his help. He really cares for us and wants to help us. (See 1 Peter 5:7)
God helps those that show initiative and exert themselves. God also encourages a spirit of generosity and encourages consideration for those suffering misfortune and will not forget those that help others. (See Proverbs 11:25; Luke 6:38)
So let us all keep seeking God’s blessing on all we do, since all things come from Him.
